Samsung is reportedly planning a major overhaul for its phone cameras in 2020. After Apple introduced major upgrades to the iPhone camera this year, Samsung plans to hit back with the new Galaxy S11.

Bloomberg reports that the company will introduce the new Galaxy S11 with a 108-megapixel camera sensor sometime in February of 2020.

The new device will also feature 5x optical zoom and a time-of-flight sensor like the Note 10+. There will be three other camera sensors on the back of the device, including an ultrawide-angle lens.

Samsung also plans to bring the 108-megapixel camera sensor and 5x zoom to the Galaxy Fold “clamshell” device as part of its renewed commitment to mobile photography.

Samsung already made a 108MP camera sensor back in August of this year in partnership with Xiaomi, so it shouldn’t be a major surprise if we see the same sensor make an appearance on the company’s next flagship phone. At the time, Samsung said the new 108MP camera sensor allowed for resolution equivalent to DSLR cameras, and “extremely sharp photographs” in rich detail. The sensor features a large lens capable of absorbing more light, allowing for better quality pictures in low-light conditions. So if you love Samsung phones and mobile photography, you will probably be really pleased with what Samsung has coming up.
