AppSheet is Google’s New No-Code Platform for Custom Apps
No code/low code environments like Microsoft’s Power Platform are all the rage these days, so it’s no surprise that Google has one as well.
“AppSheet is Google Cloud’s no-code application development platform, and even if you don’t know HTML from Python, you can use it to create powerful applications without writing a single line of code,” Google’s Peter Dykstra writes in the announcement post. “You can get started with AppSheet directly from Google Sheets, just like creating a Google Form.”
For the unfamiliar, Sheets is Google’s spreadsheet app (web and mobile), and thus an alternative to Microsoft Excel. And Google Forms is the online giant’s web-based survey service that works with various Google Workspace apps, including Sheets.
According to Google, AppSheet can work with “almost endless combinations of data, functionality, and personalization,” and the firm has created three templates—for custom fitness, task management, and reminder apps—so you can get up and running quickly. For example, the fitness template lets you create a custom fitness app that can “do things like record your sets, reps, and weights, log your workouts and show you your progress.”
Those templates are just examples, Google says, and you can use AppSheet to build custom apps of any kind. The firm promises more tutorials soon.
