Apple Adds Eight 2015-2016 Macs to its Vintage Products List

Apple has added eight new MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac models released between 2015-2016 models to its Vintage Products list (via MacRumors). The list includes the first MacBook Pro models that shipped with the Touch Bar back in October 2016, as well as 12-inch MacBooks released in early 2016.

Apple’s “vintage” label applies to products that the company stopped selling more than 5 and less than 7 years ago. These devices are usually not eligible anymore for repairs at an Apple Store or other Apple-certified repair locations.

Here’s the list of 8 Macs that Apple added to its Vintage product list on July 31, 2022:

  • MacBook (12-inch, Early 2016)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015)
  • iMac (27-inch, Retina 5K, Late 2015)

If you’re unsure about what Mac model you have, you can check that by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the macOS Menu bar, and then selecting “About this Mac”. If you do own one of these Macs, be aware that they’re also not compatible with macOS Ventura, the next version of macOS coming later this fall.

2016 was a year of important changes for Apple’s MacBook Pro line: In addition to the new Touch Bar on high-end models, the redesigned MacBook Pros that shipped this year also brought the infamous Butterfly keyboard that led to a class-action lawsuit in the US. If the Butterfly keyboard is now gone for good on recent MacBooks, the Touch Bar still lives on the M2 13.3-inch MacBook Pro that started shipping earlier this summer.
