Leaked images show the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 from all angles

Posted August 1, 2019 | Mobile | News

Originally it was thought that the watch would be introduced alongside the new Galaxy Note 10 series at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 7th during the company’s next Unpacked event. But the other day, a video teaser released by the manufacturer indicated that the smartwatch will be announced on August 5th.
Today, Android Headlines leaked images showing the Tizen-powered smartwatch from all angles and in all of its color options (Gold, Silver, and Black). It appears that these images show that the watch will be sold with a silicone strap although a leather band could be an option. Additionally, as we have pointed out before, there will be no rotating bezel on this device. Instead, there is speculation that users will navigate the watch’s interface by swiping on touch-sensitive bezels. Remember the red ring that was supposed to be found around the power button on the LTE units? The ring does not appear in these images.

Rated for 5ATM, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 can be worn to a depth of 164 feet for 10 minutes

The 40mm Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will reportedly be equipped with a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display while the 44mm model will have a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED screen.  Both will have a circular resolution of 360 x 360. Powering the wearable will most likely be the Exynos 9110 chip. 768MB of memory will be found in the Wi-Fi version while the LTE variant could feature 1.5GB of RAM. The FCC visit revealed that the device will come with 4GB of storage and the battery sizes will be 247mAh and 340mAh on the Wi-Fi and LTE units, respectively. Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity will be featured on the watch.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has been certified to conform with MIL-STD-810. These are military standards that are supposed to give you the impression that the device is rugged enough to be worn by military personnel. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass and the watch is water-resistant to 50 meters (164 feet) for as long as 10 minutes.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is expected to carry an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. This feature is the breakout star on the Apple Watch Series 4 and has already saved some lives. The ECG will look for an abnormal heart rhythm that is usually indicative of Atrial fibrillation (AFib). Those with AFib are more apt to get blood clots, strokes and heart failure. So yeah, having the ability to get an ECG reading anytime is important-but only to those who want to live. The ECG feature is such a big deal medically that it will require the FDA to approve the system being used on the Galaxy Watch Active 2; the last word we heard is that this approval might not come until the middle of next year. So it is possible that the device launches with the ECG monitor disabled until the FDA gives it a thumbs up.
Another feature on the Apple Watch Series 4 that will be found on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is fall detection. This will sense when someone wearing the latter device falls. If the watch detects that the user is not moving, it will automatically call 9-1-1 and send a message to emergency contacts.
