Tips and picks
Tip of the week: Enable Smart App Control
Smart App Control is a new security feature in Windows 11 22H2 but it’s only enabled by default (I think it is) on new PCs. And if you want to enable it manually, you can only do so right after a clean install. Disabling it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
App pick of the week: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Open Beta
It’s finally happening tomorrow (if you’re on PC or Xbox). Rejoice!
Enterprise pick of the week: Power Up
Looking to get into tech in a quick and relatively easy way? The Power Platform folks have introduced a 3-month certification program that currently is all virtual called Power Up. It’s free, but you do need to apply and be accepted.
Developer pick of the week: Microsoft CTO of Azure Mark Russinovich is all in on Rust
His “We Love Rust” tweet was heard round the C/C++ world and some devs weren’t too happy. Russinovich is still coding in C/C++ though, but not for brand-new projects
Beer pick of the week: Firestone Walker Maple Parabola
It’s officially fall here in the U.S. as of tomorrow! Time for more stouts and imperial stouts. I am celebrating the change of seasons with the maple version of Firestone Walker’s imperial stout called Parabola. Parabola is a bourbon-barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout (surprisingly only 10% ABV). They added maple syrup when brewing and then aged in retired maple bourbon barrels for six months. Fudgy, caramelly, and very mapley!
