Windows 11 version 22H2 includes a new Controller bar, windowed game optimizations, and new HDR calibration options for gamers.

“Today we’re excited to announce PC gaming enhancements as part of the Windows 11 2022 update,” Microsoft corporate vice president Ashley McKissick says. “With a new Controller bar, optimizations for windowed games, and new HDR calibration options, you’ll now have more gaming features than ever before on PCs running Windows 11.”

Here’s what’s new.

Controller bar. This new view in the Xbox Game Bar provides a controller-friendly way to access recently played games and game launchers. You can access it by pressing the Xbox button on your Xbox Wireless Controller.

Windowed game optimizations. With Windows 11 22H2, games run in windowed (as opposed to full-screen) mode will benefit from new DirectX 10/11 display latency improvements, Auto HDR, and variable refresh rate (VRR) support. These features were previously available only in full-screen mode.

HDR calibration. Windows 11 version 22H2 also includes a new HDR Calibration app, which helps gamers improve the color accuracy and consistency of HDR-capable displays.

Additionally, 22H2 brings Auto HDR support to a broader set of games, DirectX 12 Ultimate, and DirectStorage support across more storage configurations, including RAID 0.
