Spotify today launched a major redesign of its app’s home screen that it says will improve discoverability and create more meaningful connections between artists and fans. The change comes as the service revealed that it now has over 500 million monthly active listeners.

“Spotify has gone through updates and iterations throughout the years, but today, we unveiled our biggest evolution yet, a new, dynamic mobile interface,” the announcement post explains. “It gives listeners a more active role in the audio discovery process and gives creators more space to share their work.”

The new Spotify interface features previews of the app’s content types—Music, Podcasts & Shows, and Audiobooks—on its home page so that you can explore personalized visual and audio previews of playlists, albums, podcast episodes. From there, you can go deeper into the artist or podcast pages, play from the start, or continue listening from where the preview ended. There are also discovery feeds in search, previews of the Discover Weekly, Release Radar, New Music Friday, and RapCaviar playlists, and a new AI-based DJ called, well, DJ (for premium users in the U.S. and Canada).

A new smart shuffle feature provides personalized recommendations based on user-generated playlists, helping to keep them fresh. And Spotify’s podcast functionality now supports autoplay so you can start a relevant new episode when you finish one.

The preview feature is interesting: once you enable it, it will play whatever content is currently displayed, and you can scroll down the feed, moving from content to content. If you like something you hear, just tap it and it will keep playing normally.
