Sony is jumping on the video game nostalgia bandwagon and will release a PlayStation Classic mini-console with 20 pre-loaded games in December.

“Almost 25 years ago, the original PlayStation was introduced to the world,” PlayStation senior vice president Eric Lempel writes in a post to the PlayStation Blog. “It was the first home console in video game history to ship 100 million units worldwide, offering consumers a chance to play games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in their homes for the first time.”

To celebrate this anniversary—OK, to follow in the footsteps of Nintendo and the IP owners of other classic consoles from Atari, Coleco, Mattel, and more—Sony will release the PlayStation Classic mini-console on December 3. It will come with 20 pre-loaded games—including classics like Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms—and more will be added over time, Sony says.

The console itself is modeled after the look and feel of the original PlayStation, or PS1, but is 45 percent smaller. It comes with wired controllers and connections for modern TVs.

You can learn more about the PlayStation Classic from the PlayStation website. It will cost $99.99 and can be preordered now from “select retailers.” I don’t see it on Amazon.com yet though.
