Sonos Quietly Revs Its Sonos One Smart Speaker
Sonos is trying to keep this one quiet for some reason, but the firm has quietly updated its entry-level Sonos One smart speaker with more powerful innards and Bluetooth LE capabilities.
The new Sonos One still costs $200. But the company will continue to sell the original Sonos One will supplies last, at a lower $180 price point.
The differences are minor: The second-generation Sonos One will look identical to its predecessor but will contain a faster processor, more RAM, and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE). It will also contain just 4 microphones, as opposed to 6, which Sonos says won’t impact its listening capabilities.
Sonos released the original Sonos One in 2017 as a replacement for the Play:1, adding Amazon Alexa and Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility, and capacitive touch controls. Presumably, the additional horsepower in Gen 2 is aimed at Google Assistant compatibility, which Sonos is known to be testing.
