Report: Apple Could Delay iPadOS 16 By a Month to Fix Bugs

Posted August 3, 2022 | Apple | Apple iPad | iPadOS | Mobile | Windows

Apple could release iPadOS 16 a month later than iOS 16 this fall, according to Bloomberg. The major iPadOS release could now launch in October, the same month Apple is expected to release macOS Ventura.

The delay could be the result of Apple needing more time to polish iPadOS 16, a big release that will introduce a new multitasking feature named Stage Manager. On iPads with M1 chips, this feature will allow users to use multiple apps at the same time and resize them freely.

“During beta testing, the system has drawn criticism from some developers and users for its bugs, a confusing interface and lack of compatibility with most iPads. Staggering the release schedule will also allow Apple to put more engineering resources into completing iOS 16, the software update that will come included with the iPhone 14 in September,” explained Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

If Stage Manager should be the main highlight of iPadOS 16, there will be many other additions including a built-in Weather app, something iPad users have been requesting for years. Many upcoming iPadOS16 features will also come to iOS 16 such as Undo Send in Mail, SharePlay in Messages, and a new Shared Photo Library in iCloud.

According to the report, Apple delaying the release of iPadOS 16 by a month could put it closer to the launch of new iPad models. Bloomberg previously reported that the iPad Pro line will be updated with the same M2 chips that made their debut in the new 13.3” MacBook Pro and 13.6” MacBook Air. Additionally, Apple could also be planning a new entry-level iPad with a USB-C port replacing the company’s proprietary Lightning connector.
