Opera announced that it will add integrated AI-generated content (AIGC) services into its PC and mobile web browsers.

“In more than 25 years of our company’s history, we have always been at the forefront of browser innovation,” Opera co-CEO Song Lin writes in the announcement post. “Whether inventing browser tabs or providing our users with built-in access to generative AI tools, we always push the limits of what’s possible on the web. Following the mass interest in generative AI tools, we believe it’s now time for browsers to step up and become the gateway to an AI-powered web.”

If you’re familiar with Opera, you won’t be surprised to know that much of this integration will occur in the Opera side bar, which is one of this browser’s key differentiating features. But Opera is also going to add generative AI-powered capabilities throughout the product. The firm cites a new “Shorten” address bar button that will use AI to generate short summaries of webpages and articles as an example.

Additionally, Opera revealed that it will expand its current AI program to include AI-generated content (AIGC) services beyond its web browser and to include its news and gaming products. This will include first- and third-party contributions.
