Microsoft Brings Back its SwiftKey Keyboard on iOS Due to “Popular Demand”

Posted November 21, 2022 | iOS | Microsoft | Mobile | SwiftKey | Windows

Microsoft’s Swiftkey keyboard for iOS has surprisingly come back to life. After removing SwiftKey from the iOS App Store last month, Microsoft has brought it back due to “popular demand,” and it’s also planning to bring new features to it.

“We are investing heavily in the keyboard. Stay tuned,” tweeted Pedram Rezaei, CTO for Microsoft’s Maps & Local Services division. The iOS version of SwiftKey didn’t stop working after Microsoft removed it from the App Store last month, but the version that just came back hasn’t been updated in over a year.

Microsoft didn’t really explain its initial decision to retire the iOS version of its Swiftkey keyboard. The company purchased the keyboard maker back in 2016, and the Android version of SwiftKey has over a billion downloads on the Google Play Store.

Compared to the native keyboards on iOS and Android, SwiftKey uses AI to learn your writing style, it supports colorful themes, and it also lets you type faster with swipe typing. The Android version received more frequent updates in recent years, but it seems that it’s finally about to change. Unless Microsoft has another change of mind.

Do you use SwiftKey and would you recommend it to other mobile users? Sound off in the comments below.
