Apple’s iPhone 15 will reportedly get a slightly bigger display that replaces the notch with the Dynamic Island that Apple introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max last year. This is according to 3D CAD files for the iPhone 15 obtained by 9to5Mac, which also confirm that the iPhone 15 will adopt a USB-C port for charging in replacement for Apple’s proprietary Lightning port.

Last year’s iPhone 14 comes with a 6.1-display with a notch, which has been the standard since the iPhone 11 from 2019. According to the leaked CAD files, the iPhone 15 will adopt a bigger 6.2-inch display with a Dynamic Island, which is the pill-shaped cutout that lets iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users interact with notifications, check alerts, and see current activities in progress.

It’s a bit surprising for Apple to bring a feature from its top-of-the-line iPhone models to its non-Pro iPhones so quickly. However, the leaked CAD files reveal that Apple won’t be changing the dual camera setup on the iPhone 15, while the iPhone 15 Pro should keep its triple camera system with an added LiDAR sensor.

Lastly, Apple is set to make USB-C the standard charging port on all new iPhone models this year, and this has been a long time coming. Apple’s Lightning port has been around since 2012, and while it was more convenient than micro-USB back in the day, USB-C supports faster charging and data transfer speeds than Apple’s proprietary technology. Apple has already embraced USB-C on all of its Macs and iPad models, and the company also has to comply with the new EU law that made USB-C the new charging standard on portable devices sold in Europe.

Apple still makes most of its revenue from iPhone sales, so it will be interesting to see if the iPhone 15 adopting the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port will push owners of previous iPhone models to upgrade later this year.
