HP Updates Its Consumer and Small Business PCs

Posted March 19, 2019 | Hardware | HP | HP Envy | HP ProBook | Windows | Windows 10

HP today announced new Envy laptops and convertibles for consumers and a new lineup of ProBooks and HP ProDesk PCs for small businesses. The announcements came during HP Reinvent, the firm’s annual partner conference, which is being held this week in Houston.

“Consumers want devices that integrate into their life and reflect who they are,” an HP statement notes, referencing its new Envy laptops and convertibles. “57 percent of millennials know the PC they want as soon as they see it, and 82 percent of this group consider the PC as a critical part of their life.”

The new Envy laptop utilizes the latest quad-core Intel processors and delivers up to 19 hours of battery life, HP says. The new Envy x360 13, meanwhile, utilizes a 2nd-generation AMD Ryzen processor and provides up to 14.5 hours of battery life. The Envy x360 15 can be had with either an Intel or AMD processor. All new Envy PCs take features and design cues from the more expensive HP Spectre PCs, including new audio and thermal venting, a biometric fingerprint reader, a privacy camera kill switch, and an optional HP Sure View privacy screen.

The HP Envy laptop line will be available in April at prices starting at $900. The Envy x360 products will also ship in April and start at $700.

On the small business front, HP is expanding its portfolio of ProBook portable and desktop PCs with AMD-powered options.

“SMBs are passionate about their business, and having technology that helps them save time and grow their business is paramount,” HP says. “They seek durability and value. With nearly half of all SMBs still running Windows 7, now is the time for growing businesses to begin the switch to a powerful new Windows 10 machine that securely unlocks the performance that gets the job done both in and outside the office.”

The HP ProBook 445R G6 and HP ProBook 455R G6 are powered by AMD, adopt the look and feel of the more premium EliteBook lineup, and provide 180-degree hinges for lay-flat functionality. The HP ProDesk 405 G4 Desktop Mini, meanwhile, comes in a compact and stylish design and features a 2nd-generation AMD Ryzen Pro processor with built-in Radeon Vega graphics. It can support up to three displays.

The HP ProBook 445R G6 and HP ProBook 455R G6 should be available in June, HP says. The HP ProDesk 405 G4 Desktop Mini should arrive in April and start at $500.
