Google Quietly Launches Third-Gen Chromecast
Google has quietly announced a new Chromecast today. The company announced new Pixel phones, a new Pixel-branded Chromebook tablet, as well as the Google Home Hub. One thing the company didn’t mention, though, was the new Chromecast.
This is the third-generation of the Chromecast, now coming with a significantly refined design. Google has gotten rid of the Chrome logo, replacing it with its own logo and introducing a gorgeous matte finish. Chromecast is also now available in a white finish (“Chalk”) for the first time, which actually looks kind of pretty with the black HDMI cable.
Apart from that, we aren’t exactly sure what else is new. The device supports up to 1080p streaming at 60fps, as well as WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz). It’s still powered by a micro USB connection, so there is no Type-C just yet. Available today for $35.
