It’s official, a remastered version of GoldenEye 007 is coming soon to Xbox consoles, Xbox Game Pass, and Nintendo Switch. The remaster was announced earlier today during the Nintendo Direct September 2022 livestream, but the Xbox achievements for it had previously leaked back in January.

Rare confirmed that this GoldenEye 007 remaster will support 4K resolution, a smoother framerate, and achievements on Xbox consoles. However, there’s no word yet about a PC release.

If you’ve been playing video games during the late nineties, you’ve certainly heard about GoldenEye 007, a cult-classic shooter based on the James Bond movie released in 1995. GoldenEye is one of the best games ever released on the Nintendo 64, with a groundbreaking split-screen multiplayer mode supporting up to 4 players.

GoldenEye 007 was originally released back in 1997, and it had a spiritual successor with Rare’s Perfect Dark in 2000 (also on the Nintendo 64). However, it wasn’t before Halo: Combat Evolved shipped on the original Xbox back in 2001 that console shooters made another giant leap forward.

Microsoft and Rare actually did work on a GoldenEye 007 remaster during the Xbox 360 era, but the game never shipped due to complex licensing issues. A build of this canceled Xbox 360 remaster still leaked last year, but this new 2022 remaster with 4K graphics should look even better on Xbox consoles.

We don’t know yet when GoldenEye 007 will hit Xbox and Nintendo Switch, but we hopefully won’t have to wait too long. However, it remains to be seen if the game controls still hold up after 25 years.
