Disney+ Now Has Over 152 Million Subscribers

Posted November 8, 2022 | Disney+ | Windows

As part of its quarterly earnings report, Disney said that its Disney+ streaming service now has over 152 million subscribers, up 12 million from the previous quarter.  And as interesting, its combined Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ subscriber base is now over 235 million subscribers, more than that of Netflix.

“2022 was a strong year for Disney, with … outstanding subscriber growth at our direct-to-consumer services, which added nearly 57 million subscriptions this year for a total of more than 235 million,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek said. “The rapid growth of Disney+ in just three years since launch is a direct result of our strategic decision to invest heavily in creating incredible content and rolling out the service internationally, and we expect our [direct to consumer] operating losses to narrow going forward and that Disney+ will still achieve profitability in fiscal 2024, assuming we do not see a meaningful shift in the economic climate.”

As Mr. Chapek notes, Disney now has 235.7 million total subscribers, up from 221 million in the previous quarter. Disney+ is by far the biggest service, with 164.2 million subscribers, up 12 million. Hulu landed with 47.2 million subscribers, a gain of only 1 million subscribers. And ESPN+ has 24.3 million subscribers, up from 22.8 million.

Hulu is Disney’s most lucrative service on average, with an average monthly revenue of $86.77 for those who opt for live TV and $12.23 for those who do not. Disney+ averages $6.10 per month per subscriber, and ESPN+ averages $4.84.
