Disney+ Launches in the UK, Spain, More
Walt Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, is launching in a number of European countries today. The wait for Disney+ to arrive in Europe has been long, but it’s finally here, and it’s launching earlier than originally expected.
Disney+ is now available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland, marking the service’s largest multi-country launch so far.
The service will also debut in France on April 7. Disney plans to launch the service in Belgium, Portugal, and the Nordics this Summer as well.
Disney+ is available £5.99/€6.99 per month or £59.99/€69.99 for an annual subscription. Disney had offered a sweet discount for those who pre-ordered the service, but that offer has now expired. In some countries like the UK, Disney has also signed deals to make Disney+ more accessible to the general public.
The launch of Disney+ in Europe comes at a time where demand is incredibly high. With the majority of European countries now in lockdown, demand for services like Netflix and Disney+ is unprecedented. And like Netflix, Disney+ is also going to lower overall bandwidth utilization by at least 25% to help reduce the huge strain of video streaming services on the internet at this difficult time.
