Dell Launches Revamped XPS 15 and XPS 17

Posted May 13, 2020 | Dell | Dell XPS | Hardware | Windows | XPS 13 | XPS 15 | XPS 17

Dell has been releasing a number of updates to the XPS 13 over the last few years. The laptop maker has not been doing the same for other members of the XPS line, though.

Today, that’s changing. Dell is finally revealing revamped versions of the XPS 15 and XPS 17 with some massive changes. The new XPS 15 and XPS 17 updates make the devices inline with some of the recent design changes Dell introduced on the smaller XPS 13.

First things first, both the XPS 15 and 17 now feature a display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, much like the XPS 13. Dell says the new XPS 15 is the “smallest” 15.6-inch laptop in the world, featuring Intel’s new 10th gen Intel Core processors, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics with Max-Q design, and up to 25-hours of battery life. Dell says the new XPS 15 offers the “longest battery life” of any 15-inch laptop.

Both the new devices now include a webcam at the top of the display, which was a major improvement Dell introduced with the XPS 13 in 2019.  For the display, you can choose between a 4K Ultra HD+ display with a resolution of 3840×2400 pixels or a regular FHD display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels.

On the XPS 17, that’s a big deal — Dell is introducing a major update to the product after nearly 10 years, after all. In fact, Dell says the new XPS 17 is the smallest 17-inch laptop on the planet and it’s also the most powerful XPS laptop ever made. Dell claims the new XPS 17 is “smaller than 48% of 15-inch laptops available today.”

Like the XPS 15, the new XPS 17 features Intel’s 10th gen processors and you can even configure the device to have NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2060 GPU with Max-Q design, which will obviously cost a lot.

The new designs also mean Dell is getting rid of the Type-A ports on the XPS 15 and XPS 17 — both the new devices do not include any USB-A ports and instead feature USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The new XPS 15 is available today in the United States and Canada, though it will also be launching across the world throughout this week, starting at $1,299. The bigger XPS 17 will be available this summer, starting at $1,499.
