AMD Announces New Ryzen 7000 Desktop and Mobile CPUs at CES

Posted January 5, 2023 | AMD | AMD Ryzen | CES | Hardware | Ryzen 7000 | Windows

AMD announced several new additions to its lineup of Ryzen 7000 Series desktop and mobile processors at CES yesterday. AMD’s latest CPUs follow the introduction of Intel’s 13th Gen Core mobile processors family earlier this week.

Let’s start with AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop CPUs: On the high-end side, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800X3D all use 3D V-Cache technology, and AMD promises up to 14% faster performance than the previous CPU generation. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D has 16 cores and 32 threads with clock speeds that can be boosted to up to 5.7 GHz. This new chip will be available starting February 2023 alongside AMD’s two other new Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs.

The Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and Ryzen 5 7600 Series processors are other new additions to AMD’s Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop CPU lineup, and they will be available starting January 10. With up to 12 cores and 24 threads, up to 5.4 GHz boosted clock speeds, and an included AMD Wraith cooler, AMD says that these new CPUs are “optimized for both efficiency and performance.”

On the mobile front, the new AMD Ryzen 7045HX Series Mobile processors launching in February will be targeting gamers with up to 16 Zen 4 cores and 32 threads. According to AMD, its new high-end mobile CPUs provide up to 18% faster single-threaded performance and up to 78% faster multithreaded performance over the company’s previous 6900HX CPUs.

During its CES conference, AMD also unveiled the new Ryzen 7040 Series CPUs which come with a dedicated Ryzen AI engine. AMD claims that these new Ryzen CPUs coming in March “outperform the Apple M2 CPU by up to 20% while being up to 50% more energy efficient.”

Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer was also on AMD’s stage to tease upcoming synergies between these new Ryzen CPUs with Ryzen AI and Windows 11. “Leveraging AMD silicon along with our AI investments in Windows will unlock groundbreaking experiences for our customers,” the exec said.

Lastly, AMD introduced at CES its RNDA 3-based Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs for laptops, which will bring “desktop-class experiences” to mobile platforms. The new mobile GPUs will support ray-traced graphics, AMD’s FSR upscaling technology, and AI-accelerated video encoding. They will start shipping in laptops next month alongside Nvidia’s RTX 40-series mobile GPUs.
